THE ICON:
The Garlic press was invented in 1948 by Karl Zysset in Switzerland, inspired by the brake mechanism on a bicycle. Its design channels force through a small, grid-patterned chamber, extruding garlic while keeping fingers clean and scent-free.
There are many versions of the press. The one featured is a contemporary press with a reversible hinge and a grid of rounded pins to clean the excess left in the holes of the barrel.
Revell frames it to emphasise its powerful, levered mechanics and the utilitarian beauty of its pierced metal basket. It represents the joy of a tool that performs one job perfectly. There are very differing opinions on the flavour of garlic once pushed through a press.
A few sources prefer the flavour of pressed garlic, describing a lighter, more delicate flavour than chopped garlic because it excludes the bitter centre stem. The classic garlic press is a levered tool of formidable force. This print highlights its robust, ergonomic handles and perforated chamber, celebrating its powerful functional form.
