THE ICON:

Debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 as the 901, production started in 1964 renamed 911 after a dispute with Peugeot over similarities with their naming system.

The Porsche 911 has evolved over six decades and 8 generations into probably the world’s most recognised and iconic sports car. Maintaining its signature rear engine. Originally air-cooled, 911’s switched to water-cooled engines in 1998, increasing efficiency and power. In 2017, the 1 millionth Porsche 911 rolled off the production line.

The fastest 911s are the latest with the Turbo S achieving an astonishing 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds.

The outline of the car is so familiar that Revell decided to take another viewpoint. The piston and con rod, an element of the engine that generates such astonishing performance. It is beautiful in a very different way. Its sculptural form, cast and machine textures scarred by 150,00 miles of wear. This image also acts as an emblem of the internal combustion engine, changing the way that we lived, traded, and travelled through the 20th century. It is undoubtedly one of the most significant inventions of the last century, although it has created a legacy of climate change, encouraging the designers of the 21st century to resolve through innovation.
