THE ICON:

The 99E is a masterpiece of small-scale ergonomic design. It has multiple design innovations that largely go unnoticed as a result of its utilitarian function. It is built in two halves with a durable, die-cast, grey-painted zinc body. It features an "Interlocking” nose, designed to prevent the handle from spreading apart during heavy-duty cutting, increasing safety. The handle is secured with a single, heavy-duty central screw the handle compartment allowing the storage of up to 10 blades of multiple shapes to perform a diverse range of tasks. The most commonly used blade, the universal Trapezoidal blade, is sharpened on both sides so it can be turned over and reused. The 99E has a retractable blade mechanism allowing the blade to be safely locked in 5 different positions for specialised cutting depths and withdrawn into the handle when not in use.

There is nothing in the design 99E that hasn’t been considered for safety, performance and even its carriage with a lanyard hole cast into the handle for a strap, that is why it has remained unchanged since 1963.

Revell’s photograph lit in his dramatic monochromatic style, captures the knife in two halves revealing the simple beauty of the mechanism, the rounded handle, the trapezoid blade.
