THE ICON:
Between the 1950’s and 1970’s Morphy Richards produced a number of hair dryers and appliances characterised by their ergonomic design and classic styling. It was an era where technology was advancing, shifting from bulky, rigid-hood salon dryers to more portable handheld devices for domestic use.
The Chrome-bodied hairdryer models of the 1950’s evolved into slick plastic in the 60’s. The HDA2 & 3 were often manufactured in a desirable ivory or a light powder blue Bakelite. Their improved electrical motors was a marketing feature describing the product as "noiseless" technology.
Dryers such as the 1960’s HDA3 and other 1950’s handhelds are highly collectible era-defining products.
The classic form of the HDA3 is dramatically captured in Revell’s photograph, the profile appears like the mascot removed from the bonnet of a 1960’s luxury car.
